Ishøj Forsyning (IF) has established a new waterworks in Ishøj for the production of drinking water. Gottlieb Paludan Architects has been responsible for advising both in the preparation of the local plan and right up to the construction of a new unmanned waterworks building in Ishøj.
The waterworks has been placed on a plot of land east of Ishøj Village by a new large afforestation area. Here, the waterworks' outdoor areas have become accessible to the public, with grazing sheep nearby. A SUDS solution has been developed, where the roof water is led in visible trenches on the ground to a depression.

Modern water treatment
In a modern waterworks, all water treatment takes place in closed containers so that the drinking water is not exposed to daylight, which can provide a breeding ground for algae growth. Therefore, it was possible to establish windows in the process rooms, which provides both visibility for passers-by and daylight for operating personnel.
Unlike traditional, older, closed waterworks a modern waterworks can showcase the process from the outside, which improves integration with the residents in the area.
