Gottlieb Paludan Architects are the architects behind Denmark's first high-rise waterworks, supplying Frederiksberg with drinking water in a sustainable way far into the future.
The site has a very limited size and is located in an urban context. Special focus has therefore been placed on local adaptation of the construction. As the plant has a production of 5.4 million m3/year and had to fit on a small plot of land, it was necessary to build in height and place many heavy components on the floor deck. The building has a flexible layout and is located very close to existing buildings. This required both care and innovation in the architectural solutions.

Waterwork with integrated water softener
The waterworks contains an integrated softening plant that ensures a high quality of drinking water. With the softener, the water hardness has been lowered from 22-30 dh to approximately 10 dh, resulting in less calcified water pipes and installations throughout the city. This will lead to reduced energy consumption and thus a smaller carbon footprint.
The original 1970s heating system was also designed by GPA, which has been responsible for all expansions and modernizations since then.
