Urban and Landscape Analyses

Our cities and landscapes must accommodate a wide range of functions, interests, and concerns – from urban development and infrastructure to nature conservation and climate adaptation. This places high demands on the prioritization, planning, and siting of new developments and structures. Urban and landscape analyses provide a comprehensive overview of physical, regulatory, and contextual conditions and form a critical basis for decision-making in the early project stages.

A solid foundation for physical planning

At Gottlieb Paludan Architects, we have extensive experience in mapping and analysing urban spaces and landscapes. We apply a methodical, holistic approach to identify site qualities, legal constraints, landscape resilience, and vulnerabilities. Our analyses reveal potentials and barriers, forming a strong basis for strategies and priorities that safeguard values and ensure project momentum. We combine qualitative observations with data-driven tools and actively apply the insights to inform design and planning.

Methods that support holistic development

We use a range of methods and tools to analyse urban and landscape environments – including the Landscape Character Method (LKM), developed by the Danish Ministry of the Environment. The method helps create clarity, supports holistic thinking, and qualifies interventions in vulnerable and complex settings.

We also conduct urban space analyses, flow studies, and customised assessments tailored to contexts such as station areas, climate adaptation, solar parks, and technical facilities.

Interdisciplinary consultancy across all levels

We collaborate with municipalities, public authorities, utility companies, and private stakeholders. Our analyses often serve as a foundation for political decisions, local development plans, and environmental impact assessments. We bring architectural expertise, regulatory insight, and interdisciplinary knowledge into play to deliver solutions that are robust, locally anchored, and shaped with attention to both current challenges and long-term considerations – always with the ambition to develop cities and landscapes that are functional, inclusive, green, and more sustainable, with respect for the environment and the needs of future generations.
