Our cities and landscapes must accommodate a wide range of functions, interests, and concerns – from urban development and infrastructure to nature conservation and climate adaptation. This places high demands on the prioritization, planning, and siting of new developments and structures. Urban and landscape analyses provide a comprehensive overview of physical, regulatory, and contextual conditions and form a critical basis for decision-making in the early project stages.

Ferry terminal in Stockholm’s Gamla Stan
Stockholm, Sweden
Gottlieb Paludan Architects and AFRY will design a new terminal which will provide a hub for ferry traffic and serve as a new place to meet in Gamla Stan.
The client is the public transport administration in Region Stockholm, and the project aims to enhance urban life on the pier and strengthen public transport, the site’s connection with water and the coherence with the historical architecture that defines Gamla Stan.
Gottlieb Paludan Architects and AFRY will be responsible for project management and design in the early phases. A recurrent theme will be for design and technical functionality to go hand-in-hand, and the concept involves that the terminal will both serve as a public transport hub and a new venue for residents and tourists to hang out near the water. The area around Skeppsbron and the new ferry terminal constitutes a complex part of the piers in the old district. The site is being massively transformed as part of the current conversion of the Slussen traffic hub, and the new ferry terminal will support the general upgrading of the area.
