Lyngby, Denmark

Gottlieb Paludan Architects is total consultant for DSB in a comprehensive renewal of Lyngby station.

In 1957, DSB established a new station in Lyngby and in continuation of this, Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality established approx. 20 shops on the associated areas. DSB took over the entire area in 2012 and wanted to sell the retail areas, while planning a major renovation and rebuilding of the station.

Redevelopment and renovation of station area with focus on functionality and design

GPA is the general contractor for this work. The first stage involves the rebuilding and renovation of the central part of the area, including the primary access to the station and platforms, the arcade towards Jernbanepladsen and retail areas. GPA has also been responsible for some of the shop interiors. In the second stage, the focus is on facade replacement, the establishment of a suspended slatted ceiling, signage and lighting, and the remodeling of individual stores. The final stage includes the construction of a bicycle parking basement, access roads and the extension of the existing passage to the west. In addition, a tunnel is being prepared for the so-called island platform in connection with the realization of the future light rail.

Everyone should be able to move through our shared public spaces and buildings in a safe and dignified way. In complex environments such as stations, terminals, and other public transport hubs, universal design is not just a feature – it’s a fundamental design principle that ensures equal access and high functionality for all, regardless of physical or cognitive ability.

Lighting is an indispensable part of our daily lives. It shapes the environments in which we live and work, and has a significant impact on our well-being. When the lighting is right, it supports our activities, creates a sense of security, and enhances the visual experience of the spaces we inhabit. This is why it is crucial that lighting design is planned with care and insight to support both function and aesthetics in our spaces and buildings.
