Havneholmen Station
Copenhagen, Denmark

Gottlieb Paludan Architects has developed and designed the five underground metro stations on the Sydhavn line. The latest knowledge about behaviour and technology has been incorporated into the station design.

Havneholmen Station is centrally located in a former industrial area that has been transformed into a modern urban area with residential, commercial and recreational facilities. The station is designed with light and open structures that reflect the surrounding architecture and its waterfront location.

The station is characterised by wide main stairs and integrated escalators that ensure efficient access from both water and landside. A large skylight draws daylight deep into the station space, creating a visual connection to the harbour and reducing the need for artificial lighting. The technical solution behind the station includes advanced waterproofing and drainage systems to protect against ground and sea water, which is particularly challenging in this area. The white brick louvres reflect light and improve acoustics, creating a safe and welcoming environment for passengers.
The station's unique artwork pays homage to the area's maritime history and contributes to its unique identity as part of the Sydhavn Line's development.

Cycling plays a vital role in the cities of tomorrow. It offers a smart response to urban congestion, pollution, and sedentary lifestyles — while strengthening mobility in both city centers and surrounding areas. A well-designed cycling environment makes it easy to choose the bike for everyday travel and connects key functions across the urban landscape.

Udforsk

Everyone should be able to move through our shared public spaces and buildings in a safe and dignified way. In complex environments such as stations, terminals, and other public transport hubs, universal design is not just a feature – it’s a fundamental design principle that ensures equal access and high functionality for all, regardless of physical or cognitive ability.
