Orientkaj 4 - Architecture studio layout in Nordhavn
Nordhavn, Denmark

Since fall 2016, Gottlieb Paludan Architects (DK) has been based at Orientkaj 4 in Nordhavn. Here, a former Frihavns warehouse has been furnished with specially designed furniture for the company's almost one hundred employees.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects moved in 2016 to Nordhavn, Copenhagen's new sustainable district. GPA was responsible for the interior design, including custom furniture and lighting design. The remodeling of the premises in Pakhus 54 created an open, high-ceilinged and flexible environment to support fruitful collaboration across all the company's disciplines.

Areas of Expertise

From warehouse to modern architecture studio

Naturally, the former warehouse was not immediately suitable for use as an office and design studio. The necessary transformation required, above all, visibility and daylight through large windows and long skylights to make the innermost areas of the space attractive. The new design studio is characterized by a light, Nordic choice of materials, including wood, linoleum, black MDF and white painted MDF and a visually calm color palette, which contributes to the comfortable and open office environment while supporting the corporate identity. The drawing room and meeting facilities are arranged in a large, high-ceilinged space that receives daylight from two longitudinal skylights and large windows in the facades. The lighting helps to divide the large space by function and also plays an important role during the daytime, where artificial light enhances the natural effects of daylight. The custom-designed furniture includes high desks, trolleys for computers at each workstation, graphics, shelving, racks, shelves, and a large box with integrated tea kitchen and spacious meeting rooms. Acoustic wall coverings and surfaces and the installation of Troldtekt panels in the ceiling ensure good acoustics in the open plan office and displacement ventilation, integrated in several surfaces, ensures a comfortable indoor climate.

See our Specialist Knowledge

Lighting is an indispensable part of our daily lives. It shapes the environments in which we live and work, and has a significant impact on our well-being. When the lighting is right, it supports our activities, creates a sense of security, and enhances the visual experience of the spaces we inhabit. This is why it is crucial that lighting design is planned with care and insight to support both function and aesthetics in our spaces and buildings.
