Bus and tram stops in Gothenburg
Göteborg, Sweden

Visualisation

Gottlieb Paludan Architects has designed and developed a new design concept for bus and tram stops in three Swedish cities; Gothenburg, Mölndal and Partille.

The first stops will be established in 2025 and a total of up to 900 stops are expected to be replaced or newly established in the three municipalities over the coming years. Gottlieb Paludan Architects' design concept consists of standardized and modular wooden units that can be assembled and adapted to different contexts without compromising the concept's identity.

The transparent design of the stops contributes to a pleasant and safe travel environment, while the green roofs and integration of trees and plants support biodiversity. The integrated bicycle parking spaces will strengthen the local cycling culture and promote access to different modes of transportation. In addition to the bus stop itself, the concept also includes benches, signage, waste bins, bicycle parking, etc. The concept is suitable for large and small urban stops and uses FSC-certified wood as the supporting element. Wood as a building material is deeply rooted in Swedish culture and signals care and consideration through its sustainable properties.

Everyone should be able to move through our shared public spaces and buildings in a safe and dignified way. In complex environments such as stations, terminals, and other public transport hubs, universal design is not just a feature – it’s a fundamental design principle that ensures equal access and high functionality for all, regardless of physical or cognitive ability.

Lighting is an indispensable part of our daily lives. It shapes the environments in which we live and work, and has a significant impact on our well-being. When the lighting is right, it supports our activities, creates a sense of security, and enhances the visual experience of the spaces we inhabit. This is why it is crucial that lighting design is planned with care and insight to support both function and aesthetics in our spaces and buildings.
